Belfast Metropolitan Area Plan
The Commission has reviewed its programme for completion of the report of the BMAP Public Inquiry. The Commission now aims to deliver its report to the Department by the end of March 2011. Further information is available on the BMAP Section on the Public Inquiries/Examinations page.

Major planning application - proposed retail, restaurant and associated infrastructural development at Sprucefield, Lisburn for Sprucefield Centre Limited (S/2009/1045/F).
The Commission has been requested by the Department of the Environment to conduct a public inquiry under Article 31 (2) of the Planning (Northern Ireland) Order 1991 for the purpose of considering representations made in respect of this major planning application.
The inquiry opened on Monday, 7th June 2010 in the Commission's premises at Park House, 87-91 Great Victoria Street, Belfast.and was adjourned until 10.00am on Tuesday 5th October 2010 when it will resume at the same venue.
Increase in the number of planning appeals
The Commission processes most appeals in the chronological order in which they were submitted and aims to deal with appeals as efficiently as possible. However, due to substantial increases in the number of appeals submitted over the 3 years, 2005/06 to 2007/08, many of which are yet to be decided, the Commission is not meeting its target times to process and determine appeals. As a result of these outstanding appeals you may experience delays in being notified of the arrangements for your appeal.
The Commission is currently considering cases which were received during the following periods:
- Written Representations received up to April 2010
- Written Representations with Site Visits received up to February 2010
- Informal Hearings received up to January 2010
- Formal Hearings received up to and including April 2010
